3D scanning
Artfit now offers 3D scanning and 3D design services.
We provide on-site or off-site service, laser and structured light 3D scanning, and scan cleanup, reverse engineering, and digital fabrication support.
We also provide 3D scanning training and consulting, for organizations looking to integrate 3D scanning into their workflows.
And we have scanners and laptops available for rental, for one-off jobs. We can train your staff and remotely supervise the entire scanning workflow.
-
We scan three-dimensional artworks and artifacts for collection management, condition reports, mountmaking, or custom packing design.
3D scans can be used to create digital twins of the object, for web/XR/interactives, or 3D printed to allow handling of replicas for education or accessibility programming.
Scan data can also be used to mill foam cavities and braces to the exact shape of each object. Crate designs can be archived for future milling (if crates are not saved after the object is shipped to a new location). We offer training and consultation for museums looking to integrate 3D scanning into their collections workflow.
-
We can scan people, objects, or original artwork, then prepare files for digital fabrication. 3D scan files provide exact volume and surface area measurements, for accurate quotes on 3D printing, bronze casting, or CNC milling.
Our team uses ZBrush to sculpt, edit, and prepare files for output in a range of materials, including 3D printed castable wax, PMMA, or CNC-milled foam, metal or wood. -
We scan original architectural elements on-site and reverse-engineer the files to reproduce missing components in millwork, plaster, or building facades.
-
When a project requires clean topology, or a manufacturing-ready .STP file, we can reverse-engineer scan files.
-
We offer ‘scan camp’ - an on-site or remote intensive training in 3D scanning. Our trainings are focused on the specific challenges of scanning art objects and museum collections.
We can also consult and advise on purchasing 3D scanners, printers and software. Clients are welcome to book a time with our scanning department, and come in and test objects on our wide range of Einstar and Revopoint 3D scanners.
-
After training, we want to be sure that our clients feel well supported and ready to 3D scan work - especially if the artwork is inaccessible and time is limited.
To make sure that the first scan is successful, we offer live remote tech support - someone from our team can be available on Zoom while you or your staff complete the 3D scan, and we can review it on the spot to ensure quality.
-
For one-off jobs, we can loan a handheld 3D scanner, or a 3D scanner and laptop kit. We provide remote training via Zoom, supervision and technical support on the scanning day, and QA for scan data.
We have a range of Einstar 3D scanners for loan.
